Dr. Richard Abbuhl completed his undergraduate studies at University of Illinois Champaign in 1957. He attended medical school at the University of Illinois Medical School, receiving his MD 1961. He interned at Maricopa County Hospital in 1961-62. Dr. Abbuhl performed a partial OB/GYN residency at Maricopa Hospital from 1962-64. While continuing to practice medicine at the Pima County Medical Center, Dr. Abbuhl returned to college in Tucson, Arizona to pursue a career in law. He received his JD from the University of Arizona in 1967.

Following graduation from law school, Dr. Abbuhl served in the US Army from 1967-1969. Two of his service years were spent in Vietnam as a battalion surgeon. He was discharged from the Army in 1969 as a major. From 1969 to 1980 practiced emergency medicine at Maricopa County Hospital and St. Luke’s Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. From 1969 to the present, Dr. Abbuhl has practiced law in Maricopa County in the area of tort law.
