Patient Financial Services | Frequently Asked Billing Questions

Wickenburg Community Hospital is committed to assisting those who seek our care regardless of ability to pay.  If you are unable to pay for all or part of the care you receive from our hospital or clinics, you may be eligible for free or discounted services.  Please read the summary below or refer to our full Financial Assistance Policy.

How is eligibility for Financial Assistance determined?
To determine your eligibility for financial assistance, we consider:

1) The medical necessity of services received.  In short, medically necessary services save your life, make you well, or prevent a medical condition from becoming worse.  There is a detailed definition of medically necessary services in the policy.  Medical necessity will be determined by a physician.  In determining medical necessity, we follow all requirements of the Federal Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA) and applicable laws and regulations.

2) Your ability to pay for the services.  We look at income, family size, and available resources.

You may qualify for 100% of your care provided for free, or a discounted charge under one or both of these criteria:

  • Your family income is low.  Free care may be available to patients with family income less than or equal to 200% of the Poverty Income Guidelines.
  • You are considered medically indigent.  This means that paying the full cost of your medical care, after any health insurance payment, would cause you to become impoverished.  This could apply if you are uninsured, underinsured, or suffer a catastrophic illness.

How to apply for Financial Assistance?
When you are registered as a patient, we will ask about your coverage for health care services.  If you don’t have coverage or it is not likely to be sufficient, we will either give you a packet of information that covers our Financial Assistance Policy or offer the immediate assistance of a financial counselor, who will go over the Financial Assistance Application with you.  You will need to complete the application form, provide all information it requests, and submit it to us.

If it is determined you are eligible for assistance, we will notify you and let you know how much assistance is available.  If it is determined you are not eligible for assistance, we will let you know in writing and give a brief explanation of the reason.

It is important to note that if you do not have insurance, you will not be charged more for services than the amount generally billed to those who have insurance.

Does the hospital need a copy of my insurance card?
Yes.  Your insurance card contains information we need to file a claim with your insurance on your behalf.  Your registration process goes much faster when you bring your insurance information with you.

What do I do if I did not have my insurance at the time of service?

When do I have to pay my co-payment and deductible?
You are expected to pay your plan-required co-payment, estimated co-payment and/or deductible prior to leaving the hospital.  Wickenburg Community Hospital does accept cash, personal checks, VISA, MasterCard, Discover Card and American Express.

Will the hospital bill my insurance company for me?
Yes, the hospital will, as a courtesy to you, send your insurance company a bill for services you incurred as a patient.  It is important to remember, however; that the hospital relies on you for settling your account in full regardless of your insurance coverage.  Your insurance policy is an agreement between you and your health insurance carrier.

What if I am having difficulties paying my co-payment or deductible?
Our Patient Financial Representatives are available and here to assist you.  Please contact your hospital’s Business Office to discuss options that might be available to you.

What if I do not have insurance?
Patient Financial Representatives in the Business Office can discuss payment arrangements with you.
