Pink Ribbon Angels receive $20k from Wickenburg’s Walk to Boot Breast Cancer

The Pink Ribbon Angels recently received a $20,000 donation from Tina Wuerthele, president of the Wickenburg Breast Cancer Network, Inc., as the net result of their October 2015 Wickenburg Walks to Boot Breast Cancer Event.

Pink Ribbon Angels was formed in 2009, and is a program of the nonprofit Wickenburg Community Hospital Foundation providing funding for no cost mammograms and breast ultrasounds.  Other no cost procedures such as breast MRIs and breast biopsies are included as well.  These services are available to women and men who qualify and live in the Wickenburg area.

Untitled-2To qualify for the no cost procedures, individuals must be uninsured or have a personal deductible in excess of $1,500.  They also must be between ages of 35 and 64 and have a permanent residency in Aguila, Bagdad, Circle City, Congress, Forepaugh, Hillside, Kirkland, Morristown, Peeple’s Valley, Salome, Wenden, Wickenburg, Wittmann or Yarnell.  To further assist those individuals living outside of Wickenburg, a $15 gas card is provided at the time of the mammogram appointment to offset travel expenses.

Prior to making an appointment for the no cost mammogram the individual must have a prescription from their primary care provider for the procedure.  In the event that they do not have a provider, a provider at the Community Hospital Clinic can be seen at no cost in order to obtain the prescription.  That appointment can be made by calling 928-668-1833.  Once the prescription has been obtained, a call to Wickenburg Community Hospital at 928-668-1803 can be made to schedule the mammogram.  Mammograms are provided Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm.  In addition to the mammograms, women with a history of breast cancer or a family history of breast cancer are eligible to receive a no cost baseline bone density test which is also offered by this program.  The Pink Ribbon Angels have provided more than 900 free mammograms and other diagnostic tests.

In the event that an MRI of the breast or a breast biopsy is recommended, a patient’s physician may contact Peter Stachowicz, Manager of Medical Imaging at the hospital at 928-684-4385 who will make arrangements for those procedures.

In addition to the funds given by the Wickenburg Breast Cancer Network, 2015 also received generous contribution of $20,000 from the Safeway Foundation and $5,000 from the C&J Foundation.  Individuals and organizations that wish to contribute to the Pink Ribbon Angels may do so by mailing them to Pink Ribbon Angels, PO Box 1956, Wickenburg, AZ 85358.

All of the procedures and consultations the Pink Ribbon Angels provide are 100 percent free to qualified individuals.  If further surgery or treatment is required that is outside of the scope of practice of the PRA, attempts will be made to connect patients with other organizations that may provide similar services.

Any questions regarding the Pink Ribbon Angels and the services they provide may be directed to Joan McDermott at 928-684-5812.
