Legacy Giving: A Legacy of Care

In Wickenburg, Arizona, the spirit of community lingers in the air. You can feel it all over town, including in the corridors of Wickenburg Community Hospital and Clinics (WCH). Here, excellence in healthcare meets a clear vision for the future. Thanks to the generosity of Betsy and Myron Deibel, the spirit of philanthropy is also alive and well. A recent $500,000 gift from the Deibels will enhance the hospital’s services by supporting ultramodern facilities, advanced technology, and patient care programs. The Deibels hope their gift will encourage others to invest in their health and the well-being of the entire community.

Betsy Deibel’s long-time dedication to improving healthcare is clear throughout her life. Her healthcare journey began at St. John’s School of Nursing in Rapid City, South Dakota, and lasted an impressive 30 years. She served as head nurse for the Family Practice Residency Program at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital and has been actively involved with various charitable organizations, including founding the Scottsdale Foundation for the Handicapped.

For the past 25 years, Betsy’s leadership and compassion have guided Wickenburg Community Hospital. Her contributions to the hospital’s board and, before that, as a board member of Wickenburg Community Hospital Foundation, have been pivotal to the growth and success of both organizations.

Looking back on their time in Wickenburg, Betsy shares, “I’m incredibly proud of the progress we’ve made here over the past 25 years, including the addition of a multi-million-dollar surgical center, a renovated emergency department, and the expansion of specialty care so patients can get their care close to home.” Her words reflect the forward-thinking spirit that has driven the hospital’s evolution.

In a time when rural healthcare institutions face unprecedented challenges, including staffing difficulties brought on by the pandemic and limited funding, the Deibels’ generous donation comes at a crucial moment. It not only supports the hospital’s growth as the population of Wickenburg increases but also enhances the hospital’s ability to reach even more people in its 3,300 square-mile service area, including distressed and underserved communities. Jackie Lundblad, CEO, comments, “Betsy has played a vital role in the development of our rural healthcare system. Her contributions have truly blessed our community.”

The Deibels’ contributions extend beyond financial support. For many years, Betsy and Myron took part in the Amigos Trail Ride & Drive, leading trail rides and sharing their covered wagons as a throwback to the Old West. Their involvement enhanced the experience for countless participants and reflected their deep commitment to raising money for WCH.

Having dedicated their lives to their careers—Betsy in healthcare and Myron in finance—they saved diligently and are now happy to give back to the hospital. Their recent gift and inclusion of WCH in their estate planning are testaments to their lifelong commitment to the community.

Betsy and Myron Deibel

In a world where accessible, high-quality healthcare is essential, their generosity is a reminder that every contribution matters. Giving back isn’t just about money; it’s about creating a culture of care and mutual support. The Deibels’ story shows how anyone can spark positive change and uplift their community by contributing their time and efforts. Their dedication to Wickenburg Community Hospital highlights the significant impact individuals can make when they invest in the common good. As Betsy put it, “We’ve asked our community to come together and support us in this journey of growth and service.”  This highlights the essential role of community involvement in ensuring the hospital’s continued success.

As we celebrate the Deibels’ generosity, we’re reminded of the ripple effect giving can have. Their donation will not only improve the hospital’s ability to offer ultramodern facilities, advanced technology, and enhanced patient care programs but also inspire others to think about how they can contribute to the community’s well-being.

Betsy and Myron Deibel’s $500,000 gift to Wickenburg Community Hospital is a powerful example of how giving can transform lives. It shows how each of us can play a part in supporting the institutions that serve us. There are meaningful ways to support the Foundation, whether through monthly donations, one-time gifts, or as part of your estate planning. A one-time gift allows you to make an immediate impact, while legacy giving enables you to contribute to the Foundation’s future by including it in your estate plan. Legacy gifts can be made through bequests, charitable trusts, or beneficiary designations, ensuring that your support continues to help the Foundation and its mission for years to come. Both methods offer valuable opportunities to help advance the Foundation’s goals and make a lasting difference.

Healthcare billing delays often arise from extended insurance claim processing. These insurance delays can lead to confusion and financial strain for patients, who may not receive their bill until weeks or months after care is provided, making it harder to plan financially.

At Wickenburg Community Hospital & Clinics, we strive for timely and accurate billing. However, we cannot bill our patients until the organization has received full and accurate payment from insurance companies, a process that is often protracted and beyond our control. Once we are confident that the patient’s claims are processed and paid accurately by the insurance company, then we move forward with issuing a bill to the patient. Rest assured, we are committed to clear communication and our patient’s well-being.
